Build it Back1 (6)New York City led one of the fastest disaster recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, helping more than 20,000 families return to their homes through the Rapid Repairs program, a critical first step in assisting residents recover from the storm.  HAKS was on the front lines, mobilizing and dispatching inspectors and monitors as part of this 24/7 field operation.  The City has now shifted its focus to the long-term rebuilding effort with Build it Back, a federally funded program to assist affected homeowners, landlords and cooperative and condominium owners. HAKS Receives Top ACEC Awards

HamiltonAsphaltPlant-9The ACEC-New York 2014 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced March 29th at the annual awards gala at the Waldorf-Astoria.  HAKS was recognized for five projects, including a Diamond Award for the Reconstruction of the Hamilton Avenue Asphalt Plant in Brooklyn, which was also an ACEC National Award Finalist.

We served as CM/design-builder for this $22 million state-of-the-art project initiated by the NYCDOT and built by the NYCDDC to replace the plant’s aging asphalt-producing equipment. We managed, supervised, coordinated and inspected all design and construction work throughout the project.  The reconstructed plant produces a relatively new warm-mix asphalt that decreases emissions and odors, requires less heating and can be applied in cooler temperatures, extending the paving season through the winter months.  Continue Reading…
